Introduction -
Computer is a wonderful invention of modern science. It is a special type of electronic device by which we can solve big mathematical problems and various complex problems very easily and in less time.
Classification of Computers :
In today's society, computers are being used in many ways in different fields apart from solving mathematical problems or complex problems. Computers can be divided into different categories based on practical application. It is discussed in detail below.
Functionally computers can be divided into three parts.
- Analog computer
- Digital computer
- Hybrid computer
Analog Computer :
Analog computers are those in which precise or accurate results of data are not obtained. For example, analog computers are used to measure voltage fluctuations in electrical cables, pressure variations of gaseous or liquid materials inside a pipe, airflow and pressure changes, etc. Slide rule, Leibniz's stepped calculator are examples of analog computers.
Characteristics :
- The measurement of any variable object or substance can be determined by this type of computer.
- Can solve very complex mathematical problems.
- Such computers are highly efficient.
- The accuracy of this computer output is about 99.9 percent.
Digital Computer :
All computers are controlled by digital instructions or are digital. They are called digital computers that work by receiving
Instructions :
By digit we mean number. Computers can usually read and understand two numbers. a and the other is 0 (zero). Here. means ON and O means OFF. Digital computers are used for all calculations that we want to get accurate and precise results. Almost all the computers we use today are digital computers.
Features :
- Such computers work by receiving instructions through numbers (1 and 0). (2) The results obtained on digital computers are of purely subtle nature.
- These computers are capable of performing mathematical and logical operations.
- Computers are suitable for scientific and business purposes. (5) Computers can understand machine language.
Hybrid Computer :
Computers that use both analog and digital technology are called hybrid computers. Hybrid computers are usually very dynamic and accurate in nature as such computers have both the speed of operation of an analog computer and the accuracy of a digital computer. Robots are examples of hybrid computers.
Hybrid computers are commonly used in hospitals. There is an analogue of this computer
The part is used to measure a patient's heart rate (Heart Bit), blood pressure (Blood Pressure) etc. Also, the digital part of this computer is used to measure weather forecast etc.
Features :
- Hybrid computers have the characteristics of both analog and digital computers.
- These computers receive data in analog mode and express the result with the help of digits or numbers can be done.
Computers can be divided into two categories on the basis of performance and form:
(1) large computer systems
(2) small computer systems
A large computer system :
These computer systems can be divided into three categories based on performance and shape.
- Super Computer
- Main Frame Computer
- Mini Computer
Super Computer :
The computing power of this computer is much higher than any other computer. It is the most powerful and fastest computer ever invented in the world.
This computer is not used for personal work. Supercomputers are used in weather forecasting, oil exploration, weapons research, military research, and other tasks that require extremely complex calculations to be performed in a short time. As these computers are very costly, generally government institutions can bear the cost of these computers. Example: Clay Computer, Param.
Features :
- The fastest working computer.
- Capable of operating in nano or picoseconds.
- This computer has multiple CPUs. is used.
- Capable of working automatically.
- Can simultaneously handle many instructions at the same time.
Main Frame Computer :
A computer less powerful than a supercomputer is a mainframe computer. These computers are high powered. By which large and complex calculations can be performed. The computing power of this computer is so high that only one user cannot utilize the full computing power of the CPU of this computer. These computers are used in a country's defense ministry, aviation and railway services.
Features :
- Works at the same time in time share or time division system.
- Capable of working with large amounts of data.
- Similar in shape to a room.
Mini Computer :
The working capacity and working speed of mini computer is relatively less than mainframe computer. There is no difference between main frame and mini computer in terms of work type and process. The main feature of mini computer is multi processing and multi user system.
By these two technologies, multiple programs can be run simultaneously on a mini computer and multiple computer users can work together. The operating system used by these computers may work in a time-shared system.
Features :
- These computers are expensive.
- These computers operate in multi-user and multi-tasking mode.
- Used in various statistical work and CAD design work.
- Computers can work on time share system.
